RENAISSANCE
Renaissance is a collection of photos from a longer journalistic work that explores the lives of performers at Renaissance Faires. These self-proclaimed social outcasts find joy in their unconventional line of work, as well as a sense of belonging with each other. Many “rennies” perform daunting stunts on a daily basis for the sake of their art, a risk they deem well worth taking in return for following their passions.
This series was taken at King Richard's Renaissance Faire and the Connecticut Renaissance Faire.

Ses Carny lowers a flaming torch into his mouth during his Torture Show.

Sir Malek holds his spear towards his downed opponent as the crowd behind them calls for death.

Leila Noone shoots an arrow with her feet. Her husband and performance partner Thomas Sommo braces the target for impact.

Shelli Buttons juggles torches at the Connecticut Renaissance Faire.

Paul Hoerner’s lance shatters as it bashes his opponent's shield during a joust.
